too busy

I had to chuckle this morning when Campbell exclaimed, “But Mom, I am too busy to go to school.”

Too busy?   The life of a child is nothing short of luxurious.  It is like a neverending spa of personalized catering to the individual.  If I had the life of a child these are the things that I could count on…

– I would have a personal stylist.  She would know exactly what looked best on me and what worked given the occasion.  She would have my Summer/Spring and Fall/Winter wardrobe neatly stacked in bins for each season.  Oh…and the clothes she found in the closet would have been nicely laundered and folded by her.

– I would have a personal chef.  She would know exactly what my favorites foods were, how I liked them prepared and placed on my plate, and would make sure my meals were balanced.  Of course, she would let me indulge in sweets and snacks but would insure I didn’t over do it.

– I would have a personal chauffer.  She would make sure I was safely packed into the car with my favorite blanket. And, she would provide me with interesting things to occupy the time in the car.  She would drive me where I needed to go and insure I wasn’t (too) late.

– I would have an event planner.  She would make sure to keep me active but not t00 active.  She would make sure I was well-cultured and socialized with friends my age.  She would setup playdates and art classes.  She would take me to the library.  She would take me to the park, and sometimes have the personal chef pack a special picnic lunch.  She would handle all sports registrations and equipment procurement.

– I would have a private tutor.  She would teach me all of the things I needed to know in order to be successful and a worthy member of society.  Teachings would range from table manners to mathematics.

– I would have a creative director.  She would find interesting and unique ways to drive out my creative spirit whether it be with paint, chalk, crayons, markers, shaving cream, photography, etc.  She would especially pay close to attention to what I particularly like and purchase supplies just for me.

– I would have a housecleaner.  She wouldn’t just clean the basics…but she would know how much I like clean-smelling sheets, a warm towel just out of the dryer when I get out of the bath, and my toys organized.  Each season she would clean out the closets, wipe down the trim, and clean the windows.

– I would have a personal groomer.  She would make sure I am looking just right.  My nails would be cut often.  And, when I am extra special she would paint my nails pink.  She would insure that I have no earwax buildup by gently placing Q-tips in my ears after my bath.  She would insure I have a regular haircut so as to not grow split ends.  She would rub lotion into my skin during the cold winter months and sunblock during the summer.

– I would have a personal shopper.  And here is where the rubber really meets the road.  She would take care of all purchases for the house, including:  groceries, gifts, and clothing.

– I would have a decorator.  She would not only make random adjustments to the home decor but she would manage all holiday decorations both on the interior and exterior of the house. She would take great pleasure in making sure the house was festive and cheerful each holiday.

– I would have a gardener.  She would focus solely on growing flowers, vegetables, and herbs that we could use.  You wouldn’t find a weed in sight.

– I would have a travel agent.  She would consider the best vacations for me that would not only provide me with quality family time but fun, excitement, and learning.

Ahhh…the life of a child.  Busy?  I think not.
